Discussion of the Liguus fasciatus spp.
The fasciatus is widespread throughout the main Island of Cuba, the
offshore keys and Isla de Pinos (the largest offshore key / island south of Cuba).
The following is a synopsis of information on these Liguus;
type locality, holotype or
paratype depository and publication of description.
The photo pages will discuss them in groups of six, in alphabetical order.

Liguus fasciatus (Müller 1774) -
Type locality: (The Indies)
Holotype: ??

Description: Müller, 1774, Vermium Terrestrium et Fluviatilium 2, page 145
(The Indies) (Buccinum fasciatum).
Note: This is the type of the species fasciatus. L.f. fasciatus is found in the
province of Matanzas and was one of the first Liguus areas explored by the
very early naturalists visiting Cuba at Habana harbor.

Liguus fasciatus feriai Clench 1934 -
Type locality: La Sierra, Holguin, Province of Oriente, Cuba.
Holotype: Museum of Comparative Zoology (Harvard) MCZ 72,559.
Description: Clench, 1934, Occasional Papers Boston Society
of Natural History 8:108, plate 7, fig 6.
Note: Thought by some to be an albino form of L.f. achatinus. See
Photo page #1 in Cuban Taxa for a side by side comparison. The feriai
is found in colonies of all white specimens.

Type locality: On trees on side of highway at the entrance to Campo Florido,
Habana, Province of Habana, Cuba.
